MILAN HIGHLIGHTS

If you are a planning a trip or stopover in Milan, here are a few things to do and plan ahead.

The Last Supper - reserve your tickets to go see Leonardo’s Last Supper. As tickets do sell out, do book your tickets at least 2-3 months in advance of your planned visit.

Duomo di Milano - lines can be quite long during peak seasons and women must have their knees covered to enter. Do make sure you ask for the “terrace ticket” which allows you to visit the rooftop of the Duomo! If you’re tired, consider grabbing lunch at il bar in la Rinascente which has a great view of the Duomo.

Teatro alla Scala - should you have time, this would be the perfect reason to visit the world renowned opera house, La Scala, where most of Italy's greatest operatic artists, and many of the finest singers from around the world have performed over the past 200 years.

Castello Sforzesco or Sforza Castle - the castle houses several of the city's museums and art collections. One of the must see is Rondanini Pietà, a marble sculpture that Michelangelo worked on from the 1550s until the last days of his life, in 1564.

Palazzo Reale Milano - is a museum across the way from the Duomo and their exhibitions throughout the years have included works from Monet, Rubens, Modigliani, etc. They have a dynamic exhibition so check their schedule to see what is due to arrive around the time of your visit!

Pinacoteca di Brera - houses one of the main art collections of Renaissance art in Italy with over 500 works dating from the 14th- 20th century. Amongst the collection are masterpieces by Piero della Francesca, Raphael, Mantegna, Bellini, Caravaggio, Tintoretto and Veronese.

SHOPPING - one can’t go to Milan and not notice the fashion district - so take this opportunity to visit fashion houses such as Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Valentino, etc.

After a long day of visiting churches, museums, and shopping, and definitely before you leave Milan, do remember to grab a sbagliato negroni at Bar Basso - where this cocktail was invented!
